The Southwest Michigan Eating Disorders Association (SMEDA) is an association of professionals in Southwest Lower Michigan involved in the treatment of patients of all ages with eating disorders. Originally known as the Kalamazoo Eating Disorders Professional Coalition (KEDPC), we first met in May, 2008, and since then we have grown to over 30 members, including therapists, nutritionists, social workers, educators, physicians, and other clinicians interested in the diagnosis and treatment of eating-disordered patients.
SMEDA does not itself provide services to patients. Rather, our goals are:
- to educate the public in our community about anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and other eating disorders.
- to educate professionals in our community about eating disorders and their diagnosis and treatment.
- to advocate for better detection and care for our patients.
- to further our own knowledge and expertise so that we can better serve the community.
If you are interested in the eating disorders or if you work with patients affected by these diseases, please contact us today. More information is available from Vinay Reddy, MD.
